Bellview Photo Restoration began in 2011, when our founder, Claire Maddox, discovered a box of water-damaged photographs in her grandmother's attic after a Lowcountry flood. Among them was the only known image of her great-grandparents on their wedding day.
Determined to save the portrait, Claire taught herself the painstaking art of photo restoration, spending months learning both traditional retouching methods and digital techniques. When the finished photograph was finally framed and placed on the family mantle, she realized she had found her calling.
Today, Bellview Photo Restoration occupies a sunlit studio on King Street in downtown Charleston. Our small team of conservators and digital artists brings decades of combined experience in archival preservation, fine art restoration, and photographic science. We work with families across South Carolina and beyond, restoring everything from Civil War-era tintypes to Polaroids from the 1980s.
